AUSTIN WILDCATS - USASA RECHARGE TEAM OF THE YEAR 2009 Austin Wildcats Women’s Premier Soccer organization has been named United States Adult Soccer Association's Recharge Team of the Year for 2009! This national honor is awarded to one soccer team each year and rewards teams for their outstanding service off the field through volunteer work, service projects, fundraisers and for promoting the game of soccer throughout their. Austin Wilcats exhbited great community service efforts and promotion of the game of soccer through some of the many projects listed below: TEXAS CAN! ACADEMY Austin Wildcats work with the AUSTIN CAN! ACADEMY youth soccer team to provide training and coaching assistance. Additionally, they act as mentors and role models for these youth who have been removed from public school to assist with their academic progress. They have proven that student behavior can change with the introduction and focus on not only academic achievement, but success in sports. Austin Wildcats continue to be a positive influence on students and athletes within the school which has contributed to the success of the academy. The Heroes of Tomorrow Austin Wildcats assist the Heroes of Tomorrow in their mission to reduce youth homelessness. Their campaign to assist the organization includes partnered community service events such as food drives, benefit dinners, etc. Furthermore, the Austin Wildcats conduct training camps, boot camps, adult and youth tournaments and fundraising events in which they provide a portion of their proceeds to The Heroes of Tomorrow. They provide guidance in the form of knowledge and support to the students that run The Heroes of Tomorrow Kickin' It For The Cause Austin Wildcats hold arena tournaments in which they donate the proceeds to assist with cancer and diabetes research. They not only provide portions of the proceeds but work with different foundations receiving the proceeds to ensure that the players and family members receive education on these diseases while attending the event. Soccerdemics Austin Wildcats have pioneered a student-athlete program in which they tutor youth in the evenings and then provide soccer training. They mentor student-athletes by showing them that with proper tine management, tutoring and skills training, they can be a well-rounded person and successful in both aspects of their lives. More recent efforts include: Ignite a Dream Austin Wildcats will work with underpriviliged youth to introduce them to the game of soccer in tangent with giving them life skills that they can use off the field. Virgo Sports Feet - 4 - Feet Austin Wildcats will assist Virgo Sports with obtaining donations of new and gently used soccer equipment that will be channeled within the participating Feet-4-Feet network which includes domestic and international communities.
